CESTSEN Releases ND-16 / ND-16A Electronic Neutron Dosimeter with 6Li Semiconductor Detector

CESTSEN has announced the release of the ND-16 and ND-16A electronic neutron dosimeter, a body-worn personal radiation monitoring instrument built around a 6Li coated compound semiconductor detector. The device measures the personal dose equivalent Hp(10) generated by neutron radiation in radioactive workplaces, while the dual-detector ND-16A variant extends the same hardware platform to gamma and X-ray fields so that a radiation worker can log neutron and photon dose with one instrument instead of two.

The dosimeter is controlled by a low-power single-chip microcomputer with LCD drive, on-board measurement data storage, parameter setting, detector fault alarm, battery voltage detection, over-threshold acousto-optic alarm and charging functions. The result is a self-contained monitoring unit for nuclear power plants, medical radiotherapy departments, industrial non-destructive testing teams and emergency response crews.

Why the 6Li Semiconductor Detector Matters

Most traditional neutron monitors estimate dose indirectly, converting counted events into an approximate dose value. The 6Li coated compound semiconductor detector in the ND-16 series responds directly to thermal neutron capture in lithium-6 and produces a direct dose equivalent response across the 0.025eV to 14MeV range. That single window covers thermal neutrons in moderated fields as well as fast neutrons around reactors, accelerators and isotopic sources, and the Hp(10) relative inherent error stays better than 20%.

Key Features

  • 6Li coated compound semiconductor detector for direct neutron dose equivalent response
  • ND-16A dual-detector version adding an energy compensated GM tube for simultaneous gamma and X-ray measurement
  • Wide energy response from 0.025eV to 14MeV, covering thermal to fast neutrons
  • Hp(10) relative inherent error better than 20%
  • More than 500 hours of continuous background-mode operation on one charge of the built-in lithium battery
  • Adjustable alarm thresholds for dose rate, cumulative dose and working time, with acousto-optic and LCD alarm indication
  • Pocket-sized housing measuring 95 x 60 x 27.5 mm and weighing about 190g with back clip

  • Industrial non-destructive testing and radioisotope application sites
  • Occupational disease prevention and radiation safety inspection programmes
  • Dose equivalent measurement for military units and emergency response teams

Supply and Ordering Information

The ND-16 and ND-16A are manufactured in Shenzhen, China under the CESTSEN brand and are available for OEM branding and bulk procurement. Minimum order quantity is one piece, monthly supply ability is 300 pieces, and typical delivery time is 7 to 15 working days with T/T payment terms. Each unit ships in export-grade cartons with shock-proof foam protection, and certification documents can be confirmed with the sales team before shipment.

Buyers evaluating an electronic neutron dosimeter for a mixed neutron and photon environment can order the ND-16A to cover both dose components in one instrument, while sites that only require neutron monitoring can specify the single-detector ND-16.
